When we are young, it’s something that we never consider, but inevitably, we will age and become old, it’s something none of us can control and an absolute certainty. How we age however, we do have some control over, there are choices we can make that will help us age better and have an active old age.
Here are 8 tips to age better:
1- Exercise regularly:
The average woman can lose 23% of her muscle mass between ages of 30 and 70. You lose muscle more rapidly as you age, but exercise, can increase mass and strength.
Staying fit will also reduce age-related memory loss.
2- Stay Social
The longest study ever produced suggests that having a social life with strong ties show to have a 50% higher chance of living longer than those with poor or insufficient relationships.
3- Protect your skin from the sun
The sun is essential to human life, it allows us to feel happy, active and healthy. However, only a few minutes of sun contribute to the production of vitamin after that you are more likely to be more harmful than beneficial. In sum, avoid long periods of sun exposer.
4- Smoking is a big NO.
Smoking besides all the health implications that are more known, such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases it also takes a toll on your appearance, contributing to premature skin aging, wrinkles, stained teeth, and even increased psoriasis risk.
5- Take the right supplements
There is an excellent argument for supplementation. As we age, our body starts being more depleted of certain nutrients and having more difficulty in obtaining them through diet so supplementing can be very beneficial. Fish oil is one of the most widely used supplements to combat the effects of aging. There is also good evidence that vitamin B12 is good for the aging brain, and collagen is beneficial for the skin, bones, and joints.
6- Limit Stress.
Debilitating stress can take a severe toll on your health. Studies show that chronic stress ages you down to the cellular level and suppresses the immune system, thus creating more severe medical problems. Everybody copes with stress differently, but we recommend meditation, a mindful exercise such as yoga, and a well-balanced lifestyle to keep stress in check.
7- Watch your diet.
Diet plays a huge part in our appearance, health, and our mood. It is important we pay attention to this part of our lives. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and low in sugar is highly advisable.
This is in contrast to a diet that is rich in fatty foods and processed sugars, which will leave you feeling lethargic and accelerates aging.
We live in a high paced world, where the value of sleep is overlooked. Sleeping poorly will not only show visible signs of aging on your face, but it will also make you perceive yourself as being less attractive.
While you are asleep, your body will release a hormone that aids in the growth which is turn restores collagen and elastin, which are the main constituents in the essential building blocks of young, glowing skin.
